The global payments platform has received e-money issuing approval and a Class A Money Service Business licence from Bank Negara Malaysia, enabling it to offer payment collection, multi-currency wallets, corporate cards and cross-border transfers to local businesses.

KUALA LUMPUR, 14 APRIL 2026 -- Airwallex, a global financial and payments platform, has unveiled its full product suite in Malaysia, with services to be rolled out in the coming weeks. The launch follows the company securing e-money issuing approval and a Class A Money Service Business licence from Bank Negara Malaysia, enabling full local operations.

The platform will allow Malaysian businesses to onboard digitally, collect, hold and manage funds through multi-currency wallets, convert currencies with competitive FX rates, move money globally through cross-border transfers, and issue corporate cards with integrated expense management tools.

Airwallex says businesses can save around MYR100 ($22) per international transaction by reducing FX and transfer costs, and can open local accounts and begin transacting within days. Malaysia's digital exports reached MYR2.6 billion ($573 million) in the first half of 2025, with 350 companies expanding into 39 markets worldwide, according to the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation.

"For too long, Malaysian businesses have been held back by a fragmented financial system that was not built for the digital age. By bringing our full suite to Malaysia, we're removing the 'border tax' on ambition," said Arnold Chan, general manager, Asia-Pacific, Airwallex. "Airwallex isn't just offering a new tool; we're providing an AI-native financial engine that enables local businesses to manage their financial operations with greater speed, control, and efficiency."

Andrew Chim, head of Southeast Asia expansion at Airwallex, said the company has helped companies lower transaction costs through its cross-border payments infrastructure since entering Malaysia. "Our full product suite will give Malaysian businesses the tools to scale internationally more efficiently, without the complexity of multiple providers."

The company unveiled its offering at a launch event in Kuala Lumpur, attended by government agencies, financial and banking partners, ecosystem partners, customers and media. Visa Malaysia's country manager Previn Pillay said the partnership would bring Visa's global payments network to support local businesses with cards offering visibility and control over cross-border expenses.

Airwallex, founded in Melbourne in 2015, holds 80 licences across North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific. The company is co-headquartered in Singapore and San Francisco with over 2,000 employees across 26 offices and serves more than 200,000 companies worldwide.

The Malaysia launch is part of the company's broader investment in Southeast Asia and reinforces what Airwallex describes as a key hub in its regional and global footprint.
